We would like to welcome an apprentice to help ensure that the school sites are a safe, secure and well-maintained environment for all of our children, families and colleagues. We are looking for people with a passion for this type of role to join our team and we will in turn support your training and development. Duties include undertaking the general checking and cleaning of some parts of the establishment, as directed and ensuring outside areas are kept free from litter, sweeping leaves, emptying bins and if required grass cutting and grass maintenance to maintain a clean and tidy environment.

What will the apprentice be doing?

This role will be split between three school sites:

Ightham Primary School, Sevenoaks TN15 9DD - Monday to Wednesday

Plaxtol Primary School, Sevenoaks TN15 0QD - Thursday

Penshurst C of E Primary School, Tonbridge TN11 8BX - Friday

Due to the travel between locations access to your own vehicle is essential.

Your days will vary but typical duties include:

  • Maintain the security of the premises by opening and closing premises (including times for lettings)
  • Checking, and replacing CCTV tapes (where applicable)
  • Repairing doors, latches, and fences, acting as key holder for out of hours contact to maintain a safe environment
  • Undertake the general checking and cleaning of some parts of the establishment, as directed
  • Ensure outside areas are kept free from litter, sweeping leaves, emptying bins, etc., and if required grass cutting and grass maintenance to maintain a clean and tidy environment
  • Undertake daily and seasonal maintenance of the site and equipment, inside and out, as required for the type of establishment including changing light bulbs and tap washers, clock batteries, door locks, woodwork, decorating, clearing drains and toilets, cleaning and repairing wheelchairs to ensure a safe environment is maintained
  • Maintain adequate supplies of cleaning materials and supplies (oil, light bulbs, batteries, salt, etc.), re-ordering when needed, to meet the establishments needs
  • Comply with Health & Safety, Fire Regulations, and other County policies
  • Provide a first point of contact for all deliveries, moving items to an appropriate area to keep passageways clear and hazard free
  • Move heavy and awkward shaped furniture and supplies as requested, and work at heights as required in accordance with health and safety regulations and after the completion of a management risk assessment

Training Provider:

  • Ixion Holdings will complete functional skills where necessary
  • Ixion Holdings will ensure health & safety, British values and equality & diversity is embedded throughout the course

Our training is currently offering a blended delivery - some face to face, MS Teams calls, webinars, group sessions, and observations.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

There is the possibility of a post at Ightham Primary School dependent on the needs of the school and a successful apprenticeship.

The apprenticeship will prepare the candidate well for a site manager role in a variety of school/higher education settings.

About the employer

We are a happy and friendly village primary school with a real family atmosphere. Our school is set in the beautiful, historic village of Ightham. Children achieve high academic standards and are taught by an enthusiastic and caring team of staff. We are a one form entry primary school, catering for boys and girls aged 4 – 11 years of age. At present, there are around 205 children on roll. We have seven classrooms, an ICT Suite, library, hall with fixed apparatus, and designated gardening area. We are fortunate to be situated within the second largest woodland primary school setting in Kent.
