What will the apprentice be doing?

Operations Lean Centre of Excellence.

The Lean CoE is a global central capability for Lean within Operations reporting to the Head of Lean Digital & feeding into the Global Operations Strategy & Transformation function.​

Responsible for developing and deploying the behaviours, principles, standards & tools of the AstraZeneca Supply System across our network through Lean capability development to drive tangible business value​.

We encourage & foster close collaboration with other Lean professionals across AZ​.

Every project, whether large or small, needs to be managed to ensure its success. In the role of a Lean/Digital Project Manager, you'll develop Project Management skills and utilise methodologies that drive real tangible value across Global Operations - through delivery of the improvement projects that you lead, you will also develop your Lean expertise, coaching, influencing and business partnering skills.

In AstraZeneca reporting to the project sponsor, you will:

  • Help define project scope, goals, resources and budget

You will play a key role within the Global Operations Lean Centre of Excellence, helping transform processes and implement change to enable the business to become more efficient and effective using Lean as the key driver to shape how we deliver for our people and our patients.

Day to day, you'll work with various Operations collaborators - regional and functional Lean, Digital and Business leaders so you can learn about the wider organisation and are fully supported to drive improvement and a Lean/Digital culture within the supply chain, regions, sites and functions. You’ll work with IT specialists across the organisation where digital solutions are being developed to connect the activities and maintain alignment with the Lean Digital vision. Strong communication skills are a must as you plan, capture, report, coordinate and support the team to deliver their ambition. 

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

In return for your drive, determination, hard work and dedication to AstraZeneca, we are delighted to be able to sponsor you through completing your Bachelor of Science Degree in Project Management with Digital Technologies at Northeastern University - London through a 3-year programme.

Training is delivered via blended learning, primarily online with some blocks of face-to-face learning in London.

A degree apprenticeship combines full-time paid work with us and part-time university learning whilst being involved in real-life delivery, practical learning and getting paid.

As well as this, you will be supported on a day-to-day basis with:

  • Opportunities to apply your learning in the workplace
  • Reasonable time out to attend university and study (during study leave)
  • Focussed objectives and goals for the duration of each rotation
  • Further development to support broader learning
  • Time with your line manager, mentor, buddy, and Early Talent network
