What will the apprentice be doing?
The purpose of the role is to carry out the highest possible standard horticultural work in the gardens Abbotswood care for in Cambridge and the surrounding villages.
Part of the role will include growing and tendering plants, caring for gardens, assisting with garden design, soft landscaping and tree, shrub and perennial planting.
In addition, the apprentice will complete weeding, mowing, hedge trimming, strimming, pruning seasonal plants for health, size, shape, or colour, propagation of plants (seed sowing, cuttings, division of plants etc) and complete turfing.
Staff benefits include additional horticultural training courses, staff celebratory meals on apprenticeship completion, Christmas meal, plant nursery visits, summer RHS flower show day Chelsea or Hampton Court.
Wage will increase to £14,625- £15,990.00 per annum depending on performance.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Level 2 Apprenticeship in either Horticulture or Landscape Operative. Plus: Emergency First Aid at Work, Level 2 Safe use of handling and application of pesticides, Functional Skills in English & maths (if required).
You will also study a range of topics to include Health and Safety, Business Skills, Machinery, Plant and Soil Science, Plant health.

Potential promotion to supervisor or responsible for specific gardens.
