What will the apprentice be doing?

This will contribute to projects for large scale buildings such as the Nuclear Power plant at Hinckley Pout C - which is currently the largest construction site in Europe.

Role & responsibilities:

  • Identify and follow correct metal work instructions, specifications, and drawings
  • Mark out using appropriate tools and techniques
  • Produce and assemble metal products to required specification and quality requirements
  • Identify and follow correct joining instructions, specifications and drawings
  • Produce work from metal plates and structural steel

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Mandatory qualfications include:

  • Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) Level: 3
  • Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) Level: 3

You will study on a Level 3 Metal Fabricator standard on a Metal Fabricator pathway.  On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3 standard.

During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.
