What will the apprentice be doing?
- Working with our engineering team you would have the opportunity to learn about electrical system design and schematics, PLC programming, motion drive setup and commissioning, CNC machining, metal fabrication, robotics, and a wide variety of process control technologies
- Assisting with the build of machinery, to include electrical panel build, electrical field wiring, mechanical assembly, pneumatic installation, and testing
- Electrical control panel build from provided electrical schematics
- Installation of systems on site
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:
- Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Mechatronics Maintenance Technician
Plus one of the following:
- Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology (QCF) – for starts up to June 2017 only
- Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering Technologies (QCF) - for starts up to June 2017 only
- Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) – for all starts from 1st July 2017
You will study on a Level 3 Engineering Technician standard on a Mechatronics Maintenance Technician pathway. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3 standard.
During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.

- Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world. These can open the door to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors worldwide
