Working with Southampton Engineering Training Association (SETA) and our skilled workforce, you will be trained in all aspects of fabrication and welding as well as gaining extensive knowledge of engineering materials and standards used in the Aerospace sector.

What will the apprentice be doing?
- You will learn how to read engineering drawings
- You will learn how to measure, mark out and produce sheet metal components and assemblies to precision tolerances
- You will learn to do TIG welding
- You will learn how to maintain workshop equipment and keep it in good repair
- Observing learning and understanding a wide range of engineering skills and processes
- To be able to demonstrate these skills and processes by working independently or with a team to undertake tasks and increase overall contribution to the department
- Maintaining a logbook over the duration of the apprenticeship period. Recording training, projects that have been undertaken and skills learnt
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Apprentices will undertake a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard programme. This will include a full-time period of practical workshop based ‘off-the-job’ training at SETA’s Apprenticeship Centre in Southampton.
You will also begin a technical certificate (depending on your prior attainments) where you will be required to attend SETA one day a week over two academic years. After your initial training at SETA, you will be with your employer working on developing your skills for your End Point Assessment.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Further job specific training and development will be provided as required by the role. There may also be other opportunities to contribute to overall success of the business by taking on additional roles and responsibilities.
