What will the apprentice be doing?
- Our engineers find physical answers to some of the biggest challenges in our industry. This position is to work within the Power Industry, within either the Balfour Beatty Substation or Cabling department which involves the design and build of Substation and cabling assets for the Transmission and Distribution Industry across the UK
- Working with high and low voltage equipment (400V up to 400kV)
- Managing power generation, transmission and distribution projects
- Designing systems and products which may include substation or cabling design
- Working with renewable energy sources
- Carrying out feasibility studies for new technical developments
- Drawing up project plans, making models, prototypes and circuit diagrams
- Budgeting
- Estimating timescales
- Overseeing the work of technicians, designers and CAD
- Factory Acceptance Testing of designs and systems
- Making sure projects meet safety regulations
- Liaising with clients
- Managing programmes
- Working as part of a multi-disciplinary project team, which is likely to include engineers from other specialist areas
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- You will study a level 4 Electrical Power Networks Engineer (HNC equivalent) over 30 months
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
- You will be given a career path on joining that will take you through the different roles and experiences you should gain through the apprenticeship
- Following successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be able to develop your career further within Balfour Beatty
