What will the apprentice be doing?

Learning all aspects of traditional butchery:

  • Knife skills
  • Whole carcase butchery - beef, pork, lamb, poultry and game
  • Serving in the shop
  • Making pies, pasty's and sausage rolls

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Butcher Standards Level 2 Qualification
  • FDQ Level 2 Award in Food Safety
  • FDQ Level 2 Award in Health and Safety
  • FDQ Level 2 Award in Knife Skills
  • Level 1 / 2 Functional skills in English and maths if required

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

On completion of the apprenticeship, there are management positions available for the right candidate.

Things to consider

It is hard work and can be physically demanding. In the winter it is a cold environment to work in, but if you are motivated you will not be too affected by this. Butchery is a skills shortage so if you are proficient and qualified you can earn a good living.
