The apprentice will be working outside in all weathers with one of our qualified surveyors around the UK. The role will include learning all aspects of Civil Engineering, as well as supporting with on-site visits and work. The successful apprentice will also learn to use software and will assist with reports and projects.

What will the apprentice be doing?

Within this role as an Apprentice Civil Engineer, your duties will include:

  • Learning all aspects of Civil Engineering.
  • Learning to use different types of equipment.
  • Assisting with on-site work such as Land Surveying and Topographical Surveys.
  • Attending site visits.
  • Following safety standards at all times.
  • Using computer software programmes for drawings (CAD).
  • Assisting with reports and projects.
  • Liaising with various teams within the business, as required.
  • Assisting with all associated paperwork.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

For the full apprenticeship, candidates will complete:

  • Level 3 Civil Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard.
  • Level 2 Award in Functional Skills Mathematics.
  • Level 2 Award in Functional Skills English.
  • End point assessment, leading to EngTech qualification with the ICE for successful candidates.

The successful apprentice will be expected to attend college sessions one day per week at the Ipswich Road campus, located near Norwich city centre.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

The applicant can look to become a qualified Land Surveyor and to lead a small group of surveyors in the future.

Things to consider

The role is based primarily outside; you will be required to walk long distances in assisting the Land Surveyor. As you become experienced, office time and outside time will even out. The position will be based in Aylsham, Norfolk but you must be able to stay away for work occasionally. The applicant must be able to travel to access our different work sites.

About the employer

We provide Topographical Surveys to many consultants, architects, planners, and local authorities around the UK. The position will initially be assisting our surveyors with their day-to-day duties, whilst learning and progressing at college. We are a small company looking to expand throughout the UK.
