Kiln Refractory Brick Layer Apprenticeship STEELITE INTERNATIONAL LIMITED

You will be maintaining the kilns and associated kiln cars to a high standard of repair. You will be inspecting the refractory bricks (also known as firebricks) in the kiln and repair/replace as required. You will also manage the stock of refractory bricks to make sure there are enough at all times.

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • To regularly inspect all kiln cars and carry out the necessary repairs using the appropriate materials
  • Inspect and repair the kiln linings as required
  • Monitor and record the use of all refractories
  • Maintain adequate levels of refractory materials and inform the Kiln Manager/s of order requirements 
  • To comply with all Health and Safety Regulations and Company policies and to ensure at all times that the work area is clean, tidy and safe.

  • Diploma in Manufacturing (Level 2)
  • Functional Skills Maths and English (if required)

Full time employment after the apprenticeship. Opportunities to progress to team leader roles or move to other departments if needed.

Things to consider

This role does involve some manual handling. There will also be exposure to noise and heat. Full Manual Handling training will be provided along with further specialist training on the job.
