JJD & SA Hext are offering an exciting opportunity to join their team as a Horticulture Apprentice and gain an insight into the industry. You will be involved in the full process of vegetable production from seeding and planting of vegetables, to harvesting and preparation, amongst other duties.

Payment will depend on their location, age and experience but start at £6/hr to rise incrementally every 6 monthly review should the applicant show appropriate progression.

Working week 8am – 5pm with a 30-minute break between 10am – 10.30am and an hour break between 1pm – 2pm.

What will the apprentice be doing?
Daily duties will include:
- Seeding and germinating our own vegetable modules
- Planting the vegetable modules with a tractor operated planter and by hand
- Training and pruning polytunnel vegetables
- Developing planting schedules
- Weeding, harvesting, preparing and washing vegetables ready for restaurants
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
You will be working towards a Level 2 Horticulture Apprenticeship Standard.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
There is the option to progress on to a Level 3 Apprenticeship or a full-time study programme at the college upon sucessfully completing this Horticulture Operative Standard.
