What will the apprentice be doing?

Hands on role. On the job training, with constant learning. XERO training and training on other cloud based software's will be provided.
Duties include:

  • Book-keeping.
  • Statutory accounts production.
  • Basic tax computations.
  • Emails and telephone conversations with clients.
  • Working alongside colleagues on specific ad hoc tasks e.g. data manipulation / csvs / inputs.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Professional Diploma - AAT Level 4

Professional is the final level, teaching you more complex accounting theory, and lets you choose two specialist subjects. You’ll learn about budgeting, management accounting, preparing financial statements, accounting systems, and tax. This level builds on the knowledge you gained in the Advanced Diploma (Level 3).

After qualifying you can work in accounting roles or progress onto studying chartered accountancy. The course is made up of three mandatory units (also known as subjects), one synoptic unit, and five optional units. You must pass all the mandatory assessments, synoptic assessment, and two optional unit assessments to achieve the qualification.

The areas you will cover include:

  • Financial Statements of Limited Companies
  • Management Accounting: Budgeting
  • Management Accounting: Decision and Control
  • Professional synoptic assessment (Accounting Systems and Controls)

Optional Units:

  • Business Tax
  • Personal Tax
  • External Auditing
  • Cash and Treasury Management
  • Credit Management

The Apprenticeship standard details the essential Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours that somebody would need to demonstrate to be successful in this job role, this includes, Business Awareness, Ethics, Communication, Leadership, Planning and Prioritisation and Problem Solving. Apprentices will need to show they are competent in all the areas detailed in the standard when they take End Point Assessment.

The Knowledge areas of the standard will typically be covered through completion of the qualification. Skills and Behaviours are developed through workshops, e-learning, workplace training and practical experience provided ‘on-the-job’.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

We are looking at the next generation to lead our practice. We are looking for quick learners who will be committed, work hard and sail through the ACA exams (school leavers would start with AAT 4 before moving to ACA.
We would expect that post qualification, you would be assigned a small portfolio of your own clients, gradually increasing responsibilities over time to ultimately reach senior management. We have the backing of ETL Group to encourage and assist share ownership for key senior employees who ultimately manage the practice and have a direct stake in its success. Your ACA qualification would see a large increase.
