What will the apprentice be doing?
The post holder will be required to working accurately and within specified tolerances, to engineering drawings, product structures and work orders, and at company- specified pace of work:
Role & responsibilities:
- Select and use appropriate tools, equipment, and PPE for the tasks
- Use welding equipment and accessories, gases, scissor lifts, G-clamps, cranes, jibs, strops, pallet trolleys, grinders, sanders, hand drills, etc, as appropriate, utilising safe working methods
- Selection, laying out and fabrication of metal weldments and assemblies
- Continually check work to maintain quality of weld
- Quality of finished welding operation (grinding undertaken as necessary) to be to company accepted standards
- Exercise proper care of tools, materials and equipment
- Maintaining records as required under company procedures
- Any other duties within the capabilities and training of the individual in line with the needs of the company
- To attend training organised by the company in-house or off-site
- To maintain confidentiality regarding the company finances, plans, products, suppliers, customers, designs, manufacturing processes during and subsequent to termination
- At all times to present the professional image in line with company standards
- All duties to be carried out utilising safe working methods and appropriate PPE, with due regard to the Health and Safety, COSHH and other relevant legislation
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Mandatory qualifications:
- Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) - Level 3
- Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) - Level 3
You will study on a Level 3 Metal Fabricator standard on a Metal Fabricator pathway. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3 standard.
During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.
