What will the apprentice be doing?

  • To assist in the planning of menus and specials
  • To prep for menu and specials
  • To cook to order during service
  • To maintain food safety and hygiene standards at all times
  • To ensure excellent housekeeping and cleaning
  • To ensure stock rotation
  • To order stock as required

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will attend York College on a day release basis and receive training in the workplace the rest of the time.

You will gain knowledge of food safety, and assist in the preparation, cooking and finishing of a range of menu items. Attention to detail, understanding the importance of sustainability and protecting the environment are key, as well as assisting in the opening and close down of the kitchen under the direction of a more senior member of the team.

The qualification you will receive at the end of the apprenticeship is Production Chef Apprenticeship level 2.
