What will the apprentice be doing?
Our solicitor apprenticeship is a six-year programme that allows you to earn a degree and gain your SQE qualifications while receiving a salary. Typically, you will work at TLT for four days a week and study for one day a week.
During years One to Three, you will work in teams where you can learn about:
- Common Law Methods and Ethics
- Public Law
- Law of Contract
- Law of TORT
- Criminal Law
- Land Law
- Real Estate
The apprenticeship will then teach you about the functioning legal knowledge (FLK) required to be a lawyer, which includes:
- Equity and Trusts
- Business law
- Legal Services
- Dispute Resolution
- Property Law and Practice
- Wills
- Solicitors' Accounts
- Criminal Practice and litigation
The essential skills and legal knowledge gained will prepare you for sitting the Solicitors Qualification Exam 1 and Solicitors Qualification Exam 2 assessments, during the final two years.
Upon successful completion (and passing all exams), you will be admitted to roll as a Solicitor in England & Wales.
Once you complete the course, you will be assessed by the SRA and TLT, for Solicitor opportunities available at TLT to hopefully continue your career with us, as a fully qualified Solicitor.
We are looking for candidates with 120 UCAS points (or BBB equivalent), however there will be space for any mitigating circumstances on our application form, or email train@tltsolicitors.com for a chat.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
As a Solicitor apprentice with BPP, you will complete the Solicitor Level 7 Apprenticeship. Additional learning within the apprenticeship at levels 4, 5 and 6 will enable you to be awarded an LLB (Hons) Law and Legal Practice, from BPP.
Your Level 7 apprenticeship shall be delivered by a blend of online and face-to-face from BPP [alongside our award-winning internal training]. Coupled with the on-the-job learning, completion of the apprenticeship will lead to obtaining your solicitor qualification.
The apprenticeship standard is based on the SRA’s Statement of Solicitor Competence. Achievement of the standard and the associated apprenticeship assessment plan will satisfy the SRA’s regulatory framework for qualification as a solicitor, subject to the SRA’s usual tests of character and suitability.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Once you complete your Legal Solicitor Apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to apply for a Newly Qualified Solicitor position in a team of your choice. From there you will have access to our qualified development programmes to build your career through the firm.
