You'll work with Health & Safety professionals as a member of the firm's Advisory team assisting in the provision of health and safety services to both internal and external clients. This will involve developing health and safety consultancy services and carrying out a wide range of construction health & safety advice, occupational health and safety advice (such as strategy, policy development, H&S risk assessments and audits, analysis and reporting on/communication of performance). You'll be working collaboratively with teams of specialists to solve complex problems, assisting with writing policies and procedures, carrying out site inspections and audits and engaging with clients on a project basis.
The projects can be very varied in size, location and complexity e.g. they may involve the energy aviation, maritime, rail, major building, manufacturing and finance sectors within the UK and globally.
As an Apprentice, Arup will develop your competencies in the following areas:
- Health & Safety risk/opportunity and issue management
- Safety in Design
- Information management and reporting
- Communication
- Teamwork & collaboration
- Client focus
- Managing project scope
- Problem solving
- Project planning
- Communication and safety leadership
- Application of relevant regulations
These skills will be developed through practical on-the-job training, working with experienced health and safety consultants, multi-disciplinary teams, commercial and project managers across the business and classroom-based training.
For clarity, this role is health & safety specific and while you will work with a variety of professionals including project and risk managers, this apprenticeship role is not related to risk or project management.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
As part of your apprenticeship, you'll study towards the Level 7 Risk & Safety Management Professional (degree) qualification.
Our apprenticeships allow you to study for industry-recognised qualifications whilst earning a competitive salary. As an apprentice, you will study with a training provider, such as a university, and combine this experience with real responsibilities in the workplace. Your study pattern could be day or block release, or via distance learning, depending on the course that you enrol on. A dedicated mentor will guide you through your personal and professional development.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
When joining us as one of our apprentices, you’ll enjoy the opportunity to study for a paid, professionally recognised qualification in a discipline that will help you further your career. Our apprentices are employed on a permanent basis, so you'll continue to progress with Arup once you've completed your course.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll have access to our online network. You’ll also take internal courses. These cover technical aspects of the business, such as software, but also vital ‘soft’ skills such as report writing and working effectively.
