What will the apprentice be doing?
- Learn basic engineering principles both in the field of electrical and mechanical engineering
- Training to work on and with high voltage electric rotating machines
- To work alongside highly skilled technicians and engineers to provide you with the wealth of knowledge required to become a fully trained technician or engineer
- To gain the knowledge, to be able to comply with engineering standards and procedures
- To gain the knowledge, to be able to work in accordance with health, safety and environmental, with all the organisation’s policies and procedures at all times
- To learn fault finding techniques on complex pieces of equipment
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:
- Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Mechatronics Maintenance Technician
Plus one of the following:
- Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology (QCF) – for starts up to June 2017 only
- Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering Technologies (QCF) - for starts up to June 2017 only
- Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) – for all starts from 1st July 2017
You will study on a Level 3 Engineering Technician standard on a Mechatroncs Maintenance Technician pathway. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3 standard.
During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the training centre for one day a week for knowledge study.

Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world. These can open the door to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors worldwide.
