What will the apprentice be doing?
The Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme at TSTL consists of the following placements in the engineering teams; Process Engineering, Product Engineering, New Product Introduction, Tooling Engineering (CAD) and Laboratory.
During each rotation you will work closely with the department, supporting both day to day tasks and completing short projects whilst learning about the area.
This will include the following:
- Writing technical documents
- Writing statistical analysis of process data
- Problem investigation and resolution
- Utilising tooling design and control
- Provide technical support to help resolve key business issues
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Manufacturing Engineers primarily support the activities involved in bringing design programmes into manufacture. This role is pivotal to the launch planning and smooth delivery of exciting new products or product refresh programmes. The focus is on the advanced manufacturing techniques and project management skills required to launch products on time, on cost and to the right quality. Typically Manufacturing Engineers work closely with a range of other engineers, functions and managers both within their own company and supplier base.
You will study on a Level 6 Manufacture Engineer Degree standard on a Foundation Degree in Manufacturing Technology pathway. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Degree Level 6 standard.
During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.

Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world.
