What will the apprentice be doing?
- Provide oral health education to patients
- Use a variety of dental instruments to scale, polish & clean teeth
- Removing plaque & applying treatments to remove or reduce decay
- Ensuring that dental tools & instruments are sterilised appropriately
- Taking radiographs & impressions of teeth & giving local anaesthetic under the Dentist’s supervision
- Applying temporary sealants & coatings to protect teeth
- Collecting dental & medical histories & maintaining health records of patients
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
An apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage, gain valuable work experience and industry specific competence. You will be expected to work towards the Dental Nurse Level 3 (Integrated) Apprenticeship Standard, with support from your employer and the Chesterfield College Group.
As part of your apprenticeship, and dependent on your prior attainment, you may be required to complete maths and English Functional Skills which is an integral part of your apprenticeship. Upon successful completion you will be awarded additional certificates of recognition for these qualifications.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Expected career progression within the practice to take on more responsibilities with practice funded post qualification training provided – Radiographs course/ Impression taking course/ Oral health education course. Including work as Treatment Coordinator/Extended duties/Practice management.
