What will the apprentice be doing?
Downgate Farm is a friendly, family run-yard near Heathfield, East Sussex where each horse is guaranteed to receive personalised care and attention from knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Our facilities firstly include a five-horse walker, lunge pen, post and rail paddocks for grazing, 25 x 60m outdoor school, full set of show jumps and extensive off-road hacking with an all-weather gallop within hacking distance plus a lunge pen and lastly a solarium wash bay. Therapy treatments and rehabilitation equipment also available. Onsite is a UKCC Level 3 and BE accredited trainer to help and coach and access to the best vets and farriers in the country.
The apprentice will be joining a very experienced, friendly and dedicated team.
Usual yard duties to include:
- Mucking out
- Feeding and watering horses
- Changing rugs
- Turning out and bringing in
- Giving the best care available to ensure the horses well being
- Keeping the yard, paddocks and arena tidy and clean
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
The Equine Groom, Level 2 standard to be supported by Haddon Training, along with maths and English functional skills if required.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Opportunity to progress onto L3 apprenticeship after completion of L2.
