What will the apprentice be doing?
Southey Farm is a Lusitano stud and livery yard in the Blackdown Hills
AONB on the Somerset / Devon border. Southey Farm is one of only a handful of established Lusitano yards in the country. It is highly regarded within the Lusitano community, with several horses being prolific breed and performance show champions. The Lusitano breed is currently ranked fifth in the world for dressage and Carl Hester is training a young Lusitano stallion, so there’s never been a more exciting time to get involved with this amazing breed!
The stud stallion is Atinado, a high profile black stallion from famous
bloodlines with an exceptional temperament. Several broodmares and some of his homebred youngstock are also at livery at Southey Farm and once you have enough experience, you will have the opportunity to work with them under supervision.
Southey Farm attracts world class international trainers from both the UK and abroad, and regular clinics.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Training with youngstock when you have enough experience and opportunity to work alongside world class international trainers and be a part of dressage, working equitation and side saddle clinics.
The apprenticeship is supported by Haddon Training, along with maths and English functional skills if required.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Progression to Level 3 apprenticeship possible. Potential for employment post-qualification but to be discussed nearer the time.
