What will the apprentice be doing?
This CNC machining engineering apprentice programme will form part of our succession planning for the future. You will be trained, supported, and monitored throughout the process.
Joining our team as a CNC Machining Apprentice, your role will be focused on learning about the metal cutting processes on site. As part of your programme, you will learn how to:
- Check materials before starting work
- Become competent using technical information
- Set up a range of work holding devices including chucks, fixtures and vices
- Programme, set and operate CNC machinery
- Complete machining operations
- Adjust a range of machining parameters to produce products with a high degree of accuracy and finish
- Use a range of measuring equipment
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
When your formal CNC machining engineering apprenticeship starts you will be paid and day-released to PETA in Havant for the duration of your programme.
This will start by learning how to work safely, efficiently and use technical information. You will also learn how to use manual lathes and Mills, CNC lathes and mills as well as using hand fitting and assembly skills. Additionally, you will learn how to use Computer Aided Design systems and undertake improvement activities.
After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:
- Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
- Level 2 Diploma in Machining (Foundation Knowledge)
After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) - Machining
- Level 3 Diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge)
On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will achieve the Engineering Technician (CNC Machinist) Apprenticeship Standard
