Apprentice Mechanical Design Engineer H.W.M.BUILDING SERVICES LTD
At the end of the apprenticeship the successful candidate will be competent in designing HVAC systems from concept to delivery. They will have the ability to take project ownership whilst under support of the project Director and work both on their own and as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team. Your duties will include but not be limited to, turning architectural layouts in to base build xrefs for use with our own drawings, document control using Viewpoint, downloading design team and specialist sub-contractors’ drawings for use and co-ordination within the M&E design etc.,

What will the apprentice be doing?
· Turning architectural layouts in to base build xrefs for use with our own drawings
· Document control using Viewpoint, downloading design team and specialist sub-contractors drawings for use and co-ordination within the M&E design
· Full Building modelling using IES and/or Bentley openbuildings
· Heat gain/loss calculations associated with the thermal model
· Building regulations Part L calculations
· HVAC system calculations
· Design of HVAC systems
· Specification of HVAC systems
· 2D drafting and BIM modelling of HVAC systems including the relevant COBie data where applicable
· Attendance at design team meetings
· Attendance at BREEAM meetings
· Site visits and surveys

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
This is a day-release apprenticeship, meaning you will spend 1 day per week at the University of the West of England on their Frenchay Campus (Coldharbour Lane, Bristol, England BS16 1GY). The other 4 days per week will be spent working for the company. This is either a 5-year (for applicants with A-Levels or equivalent) or a 3-year (for applicants with a Level 4 HNC in a construction related subject) course, leading to a BEng(Hons) in Building Services Engineering.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
The apprentice will become a full time employee as part of the apprenticeship.
Internal promotion is very much encouraged and we are a growing business.
