Apprentice Sheet Metal Engineer KMF PRECISION SHEET METAL LIMITED

Come and join an award-winning apprenticeship employer/provider. We are looking for 16 apprentices to join us in September 2023. Apprentices will manufacture using sheet metal technology and learn skills such as fabrication, welding, CAD programming and mechanical assembly. The programs are Engineering Operative L2 & Metal Fabricator L3.

What will the apprentice be doing?

As an apprentice sheet metal engineer, you will be trained in the following processes within our business and onsite training facility:

  • CNC Punch and laser cutting
  • CAD
  • MIG & TIG welding
  • Inserting and bushing
  • Drilling and tapping
  • Finishing of products

All competency training takes place within our dedicated apprentice training workshop, and academic training within our training centre.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

For the first 6 months, a standard week would be:

  • 3 days a week - dedicated off the job training in our training workshop
  • 1 day a week - academic training in our training centre
  • 1 day a week - rotational training program in our manufacturing facility

Following the initial 6 months, you will move into the factory on a rotational "on the job" training for 4 days per week. 

Upon completion the apprentice will achieve an Intermediate Apprenticeship as an Engineering Operative.

Apprentices without Level 1 (or equivalent) in English and maths must ensure that apprentices achieve Level 1 and take the test for Level 2 prior to taking the end-point assessment

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Upon successful completion of the Level 2 Apprenticeship, you will be offered the opportunity to progress to a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship.

We also offer the opportunity to continue onto further education and complete a degree apprenticeship in mechanical engineering, this will be completed with Staffordshire university whilst working full time at KMF. Career opportunities at KMF are throughout our whole business, ranging from business development, programming to department leaders.

Applications are to be made through the KMF website, following the instructions on the careers webpage. Complete the online application form, an upload and up to date CV. The application process is over 3 stages: 1) March 2023 - Applicants will be invited to complete aptitude tests coving maths, English and mechanical reasoning 2) April/May 2023 - Interviews will take place 3) June 2023 - Work Experience placements will be offered. Following which placements will be offered.
