What will the apprentice be doing?
Do you want to gain a range of technical ICT experience? Are you keen to develop your skills within a school setting? If so, look no further than the ICT Technician Apprentice vacancy!
The ICT Technician Apprentice will be responsible for the following duties:
Installation and Maintenance:
- Install, maintain and repair the school’s ICT equipment
- Install and configure hardware and software to maintain security of data
- Maintain and install voice, data and video cabling and other communication devices
- Liaise with contractors and ensure secure transportation of equipment sent for repair; liaise with third party maintenance contractors as required
Resource Management:
- Maintain and distribute any central stock of ICT equipment, including laptops, projectors and interactive whiteboards
- Maintain an inventory of ICT hardware, software and licences used throughout the School
- Maintain stock records of ICT consumables, accounting for their use and passing information to enable billing and budgeting management necessary
Safety and Security:
- Ensure real-time virus checking is functioning on all computer systems
- Undertake safety checks and monitor and report on compliance with Health and Safety regulations
- Undertake secure backup and restoration of data held on the network
General:
- Assist in the research and evaluation of ICT equipment
- Assist to the development of the Online Curriculum
- Assist in the management and development of website, intranet and marketing materials
Software Support:
- Provide technical support for software that is unfamiliar to staff
Provide Troubleshooting for the school MIS System - Assist in the management and production of websites and intranets
Key accountabilities:
- To actively promote the School’s Equal Opportunities Policy and observe the standard of conduct which prevents discrimination taking place

- To fully comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 etc, the School’s Health and Safety Policy and all locally agreed safe methods of work
- At the discretion of the Head Teacher, such other activities as may from time to time be agreed consistent with the nature of the job described above
- To work with colleagues to achieve service plan objectives and targets
- To participate in Employee Development schemes and Performance Management and contribute to the identification of own team development needs
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Full training towards Level 3 Information Communications Technician: Support Technician will be provided. You will complete a 22-month apprenticeship which includes 25 days at the PETA training centre in Cosham. You will be supported every 6-8 weeks with visits from your PETA Learning & Development Coach.
You will complete the following qualifications:
- PETA Networking Fundamentals
- PETA Server Fundamentals
- PETA Security Fundamentals
- 10 Quality of Life (QoL) training days
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
There is the potential for a full-time role to be offered to the suitable and successful candidate upon completion of the apprenticeship.
