What will the apprentice be doing?

The apprentice will learn all areas of manufacturing including:

  • Assembly
  • Sheet metal working
  • Foaming
  • Brazing
  • Production

The many aspects of manufacturing will form part of the apprentices' detailed schedule. Reporting to the Team leader in charge of each particular area you are working in, you will also have a mentor who will ensure you are trained in 5S, Lean Manufacturing and Health and Safety. 

The main welding procedures will be MIG welding of stainless steel, TIG welding and Spot welding.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

This is a level 2 Intermediate Welding Apprenticeship, delivered over 15 months. The successful candidate will be required to attend college 2 days per week as part of the training, which is based at ITAS in Shrewsbury. 

The training will include:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Welding
  • Level 2 Technical Certificate
  • Employee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

The apprentice will, over the course of the apprenticeship, be trained in BIT, tool training and quality awareness. It is our intention to assist the apprentice to find a skill which they may wish to develop, e.g. brazing, quality or manufacturing management. We have many opportunities on site at Hoshizaki and hope the apprentice will choose these valuable months of experience to find a career in Manufacturing.
