What will the apprentice be doing?
- Produce detailed engineering drawings to relevant standards and codes, using paper and computer
- Costing of design jobs using CAD Software
- Identify and assess factors that affect designs e.g. materials, application, location, risk and environment
- Design engineering concepts to solve engineering challenges
- Check completed drawings for quality, technical compliance and completeness - both own or those of peers
You will also develop an understanding of:
- Document Management and change control
- Engineering codes and standards
- Common engineering principles and the application of maths and science to engineering
- Fundamentals of engineering drawing and design
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, its appropriate application including 2D and 3D modelling
To underpin your understanding and knowledge of our products, you will also get the opportunity to spend some time within our workshop to see the manufacturing process first hand.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Level 3 Engineering Design & Draughtsperson Standard to include:
- Attendance at College on a day release over 2 years to study a Level 3 theoretical knowledge qualification
- Work based portfolio of competence to meet the Standard requirements of Knowledge,Skills and Behaviours
- End Point Assessment
- Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English (if required)
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Upon completion of the Level 3 programme, there may be an opportunity for you to progress to a HNC.
