What will the apprentice be doing?

Acrovison Ltd in St Albans are offering a great opportunity to learn about configuring, installing and supporting barcode reading and vision inspection cameras.

The world of manufacturing is striving to implement more and more automation within the production and packaging environments in order to reduce errors and therefore increase productivity.

Vision Inspection Systems and Industrial Barcode Readers are used to automate inspection and identification tasks that humans would not be able to keep up with, either due to speed or accuracy.

Our Vision Cameras are like Smartphones in as much as they are no use without an “App” on them to carry out a task. Acrovision buys in the Cameras and then writes the Apps to solve the problem that our customer needs solving.

This could be to make sure an item is of the correct measurement. It could be to detect scratches or blemishes on a product, or it could be to check that the correct product is going down the right production line with correct label information applied.

You will learn how to work with a range of vision systems and collaborative human motion robots that are easy to operate, extremely simple to configure, and quick to instal and commission.

You will also learn how to configure the correct lens / lighting settings for the cameras for different applications and environments. The successful candidate will also work closely with customers to create pre-sales evaluations for applications that customers are looking at. There will also be the potential to attend site visits.

Days and tasks will be varied. Some days you will be in the lab testing new applications before creating a report for the sales team to submit to the customer. Once an order is received, we then need to write an App for the Cameras. We then need to go to site to potentially build framework for the Cameras to be mounted to. Mount the Cameras and then test the solution to ensure the system is doing what the customer needs it to do.

Initially all this will be carried out under the observation and ongoing training of the more senior Engineers.
