Duties will include assembling, validating and verifying components and learning skills that include riveting, bonding, sealing and torque tightening.

What will the apprentice be doing?

The industrialisation apprenticeship develops skills and attributes within the team that allows them to undertake the operations that manufactures and assembles rolling stock. 

  • During the apprenticeship, the individual will rotate through each of the different build stages so as to gain an understanding and knowledge of the process, parts and construction of the product
  • Assembling, validating and verifying components
  • Systems and rail level requirements
  • Wiring lighting connections, intercom, toilet facility
  • All train connections and testing of train carriages
  • Learn skills that include riveting, bonding, sealing, torque tightening
  • Understand quality requirements
  • Understand train functionality
  • Carry out testing and verification
  • Carry out product sale preparation

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will complete a Level 3 Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship.

Knowledge and Competence training as dictated by the standard.

Over a 3-year programme, our apprenticeships combine the academic college/university studies with real life work based experience across our organisation. You will have the opportunity to build and gather evidence of your competence whilst working towards a formal qualification.

Other mandatory qualifications:

Choose one of the qualifications: Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) – Awarding organization EAL; GLH 750, this qualification ensures full knowledge to complete the fitting role.
Level: 3, Ofqual regulated.

Choose one of the qualifications: Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge) – Awarding organization Pearsons; GLH 720 – this qualification ensures full knowledge to complete the fitting role.
Level: 3, Ofqual regulated.

Choose one of the qualifications: Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) – Awarding organisation City and Guilds; 720 GLH, this qualification ensures full knowledge to complete the fitting role.
Level: 3, Ofqual regulated.

Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End-Point Assessment. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeship’s English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3. 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Subject to a business need at the time, Alstom would expect to put you into your first role on completion of your apprenticeship.
