What will the apprentice be doing?
Over the 3 year period of the apprenticeship, there will be a steady progression of type of workload that will be offered.
In year one, you will learn the basics about health and safety, mechanics, hydraulics, electrics and electronics. Much of this will be completed in one of our UK workshops, or on a resident site with one of our field based engineers.
Over the next two years, you will gain access to more and more advanced portfolio of equipment, with the emphasis on making sure you are ready to pass out as a Linde Engineer at the end of your 3rd year.
There are various different types of truck to work on:
- Internal combustion
- Electric Trucks using Lithium Ion
- Hydrogen and LPG
Each of these will be covered, ranging from smaller pallet handlers, all the way up to trucks highly complex equipment larger than 16t.
Overall, the apprenticeship is the ideal way to learn all there is to offer within Linde, and a great starting point for a career in the business.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
At the end of you course you will have a lvl3 qualification in Lift truck and powered access engineering. However, this is the formal qualification. Each apprentice will have at least a further 10-20 days training per year on equipment famialisation, more advanced exposure to electrics, electronics, mechanics and hydraulics that are needed over and above the standard qualification.
So much so, passing the apprenticeship is not enough to reach the standard we expect as the brand leader in the UK. Each apprentice will have a set of gateway exams throughout their qualification that they must pass, to finally pass out as an accredited Linde Engineer. We pride ourselves on the quality of our people and our products, therefore stringent training criteria and quality of assignments is expected.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
After passing out, there are a number of potential routes that would be the first step...Field Service Engineer, Resident Engineer or Workshop Engineer.
However, for progression, there are no limits. Presently our top UK sales person is an ex-apprentice, our VP Service is an ex-apprentice, many of our Service Team Leads are ex-apprentices. We have recently progressed a recent apprentice graduate to be one of the first specialist robotics engineers in the UK. The limits on career are down to your own proactivity, ability and knowledge. Linde has the size and scope to allow the best to progress.
