What will the apprentice be doing?

Established in 1974, we have been serving the village of Clanfield for over 40 years. Over the years the business itself has seen many changes, and we are proud to evolve and change as our customer requirements have.

As an apprentice you will be trained in all aspects of traditional butchery, to include:

  • Health, Safety & Hygiene requirements
  • Carry out a range of primary and secondary butchery
  • Produce meat and poultry products, such as sausages, burgers and pies
  • Use machinery and other relevant cutting equipment including the ability to sharpen knives
  • Cleaning processes
  • Customer service

The ideal candidate will have good hand eye co-ordination, personal presentation and good communication skills.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Once you have completed your End Point Assessment you will have achieved:

Level 2 Standard in Butchery

Level 2 Certificate in Professional Butcher

Level 2 Food safety Award

Level 2 Food safety in the Food Supply Chain Award

Level 2 Health & Safety Award

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship you may be offered a permanent position.

Things to consider

This is a physically demanding role where you will be required to stand for long periods of time. You will also be required to attend Sparsholt College on a day release basis. College buses run from the local area.

A family run business, we have a fantastic team of long serving butchers, who combined have over 80 years of butchery experience. Over the years the business itself has seen many changes, and we are proud to evolve and change as our customer requirements have. Our product offering is diverse, and includes many personally designed items, and we are always thinking of the next tantalising treat to put on sale. We make our own sausages and burgers and supply top quality meats, which are always expertly trimmed and butchered, with a personal touch. In addition to our fresh meat, we also sell fish, free range eggs, locally made cakes, Marmalades, Jams and Chutneys, Honey and locally made Madhuban Curry Sauces along with a good selection of English & Continental Cheeses. We make our own pies, pasties and quiche, plus our popular sausage rolls. Also homemade are our Coleslaw, Celery Salad & Potato Salad and we stock Patchwork Pates. We are committed to offering excellent quality meat, which is great value for money, served in a friendly and welcoming environment offering personal service. We’re also pretty good with cooking advice!
