What will the apprentice be doing?

In this role, you will be working outdoors in all-weather conditions. The successful candidate must be prepared to travel to and from the site either on a daily or weekly basis.

The primary role of a Plant Operator is to check, prepare and operate a number of construction plant machines. This apprenticeship involves the learning on four common types of construction plant and includes a 360-degree excavator, dumper/dump truck, forklift and ride-on roller.

The ability to operate a core range of plant onsite will enable apprentices to work across a number of construction projects across the business.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Qualifications & training you will gain:  

  • Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS)
  • Technical training such as manual handling, Emergency First Aid, Plant & Vehicle Marshal, and other core courses around health & safety
  • Construction Plant Operative Level 2, Standard

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

By the end of the programme, you will have gained valuable on-the-job experience, new skills, and an industry recognised qualification, that will offer you the opportunity to build a rewarding and successful career. 

Full time employment on completion of the apprenticeship.

Things to consider

Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment. To apply candidates will need to be aged 18 on or before 31 August 2023, to legally operate plant equipment. Due to the nature of our work, we require you to have or be working towards achieving a full UK driving licence.
