What will the apprentice be doing?
Year 1 - to successfully complete the AMRC Training Centre block and building basic skill with TIG welding. We have a highly experienced welding technician dedicated to giving the apprentice time and all the industry tips and knowledge they require in order to succeed within their welding career.
Year 2 - starting to weld our products or working very closely with a welder to get a product complete for the next stage. Learning about the other roles within the fabrication environment. Understanding the drawings and understanding the timings etc. and learning hand-eye co-ordination.
Year 3 - started to be given their own daily work sheet and working more independently on our products. Being fully capable and understanding of all the parts, their serial codes etc.
Principle role & responsibilities:
- Clean and well set out factory where all the production is completed under one roof
- TIG welding of fine tolerance (0.8-1.2mm stainless)
- Working to 5S and health and safety rules
- Working to engineering specifications including reading and interpreting technical drawings
- Be an important part of a manufacturing team that ensures quality standards while being target driven
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) - Level: 3
Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) - Level: 3
You will study on a Level 3 Metal Fabricator Apprentice standard on a Metal Fabricator pathway. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3 standard.
During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.
