What will the apprentice be doing?
The apprenticeship will start with an Induction into Leonardo, followed by a team building week (including overnight accommodation) at an offsite location incorporating all Early Careers new starts. There will also be a Yeovil College Induction to ensure that apprenticeship requirements and expectations are fully established.
The Leonardo Helicopters plant and equipment cover a vast array of machines from large machining centres through to composite press tools and autoclaves.
NOTE: This apprenticeship could have either a Mechanical or Electrical bias, which could affect the embedded qualifications
The structure of the Apprenticeship programme will be as follows:
• Year 1: Work placements at Leonardo Helicopters (1 day per week) and starting the Level 3 competence (work related) qualification in Engineering Maintenance. Attend Yeovil College (4 days per week) to start the level 2 competence qualification in machining. If applicable to the apprenticeship bias, start the BTEC level 2 technical qualification.
• Year 2: Work placements at Leonardo Helicopters (4 days per week) and continuing the Level 3 competence qualification in Engineering Maintenance. Attend Yeovil College (1 day per week) to start the Level 3 technical qualification .
• Year 3: Work placements at Leonardo Helicopters (4 days per week) and continuing the Level 3 Vocational qualification in Engineering Maintenance. Attend Yeovil College (1 day per week) to continue the Level 3 technical qualification
• Year 4: Work placements at Leonardo Helicopters (4 days per week) and completing the Level 3 Vocational (work related) qualification in Engineering Maintenance.
If applicable to the apprenticeship bias, attend Yeovil College (1 day per week) to continue the Level 3 technical qualification.
Each Apprentice on this route will need to complete an End Point Assessment as defined in the Apprenticeship Standard, this will take place in the final months of the program.
This apprenticeship, although the core location is within the maintenance department, will be spent in a number of different areas of the site. There will be a mixture of 'planned/preventative' & 'reactive' maintenance activities across the duration of the scheme.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
You will complete the Engineering Technician (ST0457) :
Route 10 - Mechatronics Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship.
Year 1: Work placements at Leonardo Helicopters (1 day per week) and starting the Level 3 competence (work related) qualification in Engineering Maintenance.
