This is a great opportunity for an apprentice to develop a broad understanding of print in our production department, under the supervision of a friendly and helpful team. What will the apprentice be doing?

Pre-press duties:

  • Pre-flight customer supplied artwork
  • Creation of new artwork
  • Perform amendments and alterations to existing customer-supplied artwork
  • Processing variable data
  • Provide customer with proof of artwork
  • Impose jobs and check proofs for lithographic printing presses and digital output devices
  • Process lithographic printing plates and deliver to press
  • Completion of required paperwork associated with each job bag
  • Maintenance and cleaning of various equipment

Other digital services and solutions:

  • Set up and run various digital printing devices
  • Set up and run various mailing equipment

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the qualification obtained will be a Level 3 Print Technician apprenticeship standard.

The apprentice will be given sufficient time to undertake their "off-the-job" requirement of the apprenticeship during their normal working hours.

Throughout your time as an apprentice, you will be supported by both Pollards Print and the BPIF. You will be assigned a training coordinator to ensure that you have the best training available. Training requirements will be discussed at the point of employment to suit your individual needs and business needs. Most training and studying will be a combination of site-based and remote delivery.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, there may be possibility of a full-time role, subject to business need. Progression opportunities will be available into management roles.

Things to consider

You must be able to work accurately under instruction and to strict deadlines. You should also be able to work well under own supervision before the end of your apprenticeship. Some experience of MS Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite could be an advantage, however, comprehensive software training will be provided for the successful candidate.
