This role will allow the candidate to develop various skills required within a busy textile manufacturing environment. A Lean Manufacturing Operative will be expected to carry out their work safely and meet the exacting quality standards demanded in a fast paced and efficient processing environment and develop into a multi-skilled operator through process ownership.

What will the apprentice be doing?
To learn all aspects of aircraft curtain/seat cover production including:
- Drawings
- Cutting
- Embroidery
- Assemble of curtains/covers
- Pleating/pressing
- Quality control
- Components of curtains
- Checking/Inspecting processes
- Packaging
Cutting:
- To assist the cutting of bespoke curtains and seat covers
- To be able to lay cut using detailed patterns
- Gain experience of using Eastman cutting machine
- To be able to hand cut fabrics
- Gain experience of reading detailed technical drawings, outlining the cutting details for curtails/covers
Curtain Assembly:
- To receive cut work from the cutting dept
- Issuing the cut work to the machinists for make up in accordance with details on drawings
- To monitor that the curtains are correctly assembled
- To develop the necessary skills required to be a jig operator
- To liaise with all members of the production team when required
- Operating the studding machine
- To be responsible for reporting stock levels to the Production Supervisor
- To complete any required curtain samples, working with design staff when required
- Gain experience of reading detailed technical drawings, outlining all details of curtails/covers construction
Embroidery:
- To carry out all embroidery duties, including curtain part numbers, headrest covers etc., making sure that a high level of workmanship is maintained
- To maintain correct stock levels for embroidery
- To fill in all relevant paperwork for embroidery, including keeping your own accurate records of threads and designs used
- Ability to prioritise their work duties i.e. requirements with embroidery against requirements with curtains
- To monitor quality for all embroidery
Pleating & Pressing:
- To press curtain pieces in preparation for pleating
- To pleat all curtain pieces to the correct pleat size
- Follow correct procedures when using the autoclave
- Once pleated, curtain sections to be grouped accordingly
- To learn any new work procedures and systems required within the production pleating/pressing department
Inspection:
- To work with all members of the inspection team in ensuring that inspection flow is maintained to meet set targets
- Gain experience of reading detailed technical drawings required when inspecting all critical areas of manufacture
- Check that a consistently high quality of sewing and general workmanship is maintained
- Liaising with production/cutting supervisors when required
- To maintain correct stock levels for the inspection department, notifying the Production Manager when stocks are low
- Organise and prioritise workloads when required, particularly in the absence of the Inspection Supervisor
- Monitor progress of workloads and report any problems to the Production Manager
- To always maintain communication and feedback to the production management team
- To liaise with certification staff when required
- To liaise with design staff in relation to drawings and patterns
