We are looking for an apprentice who lives in the Newham Borough to assist the health, safety & environmental team and Site Team in establishing, managing and monitoring standards, processes, communications, training and systems to promote a positive health & safety and environmental culture. What will the apprentice be doing?

Main Activities/Responsibilities:

  • Providing administrative assistance to the H&S Officer.
  • Regular on site compliance inspections of subcontract teams and taking appropriate action to remedy issues either directly or by reporting issues to the Site Supervisor or Manager in a timely manner.
  • Checking daily for the accurate and timely completion of H&S documentation such as daily plant and equipment inspections.
  • Assisting with the induction process including where necessary data inputting and filing.
  • Assist the HS&E officer with site inspections and any plant, equipment or Work at Height inspections.
  • Assist with the ordering and safe keeping of PPE and keeping records when items are issued.
  • Preparation of environment, health and safety communications and the collations of records once communicated by Site Supervisors.
  • Attend H&S meetings with Site Managers where appropriate and assist with minute taking.  Assist manager in communicating out key information as required.
  • Assist site management and HSE Department with the review and issue of risk assessments and method statements.
  • Assisting with accident / incident investigations including completion evidence collation and completion of documentation as directed by HSE Officer and Site Manager.
  • Identifying potential hazards and reporting to site management team.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Being pro-active in the identification and resolution of problems.
  • To comply with all Company policies including Alumet’s Health & Safety and Environmental Policies.
  • Acting as an ambassador/exemplar of Alumet Systems and embracing/supporting/promoting the Company culture and values.
  • Seeking and developing ongoing continuous improvement.
  • To comply with any objectives/targets/KPIs given.
  • Any other duties relevant to the role or as determined by the Manager.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Strong IT skills with a good understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Highly organised, pro-active and enthusiastic.
  • High degree of initiative and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Must work well as part of a team. 

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Training & Development:

At the end of the 24 month apprenticeship the apprentice would achieve a level 3 qualification as a safety, health and environment technician.  You will also gain a Level 2 qualification in Maths and English (if needed) and a minimum of a level 1 qulaification in ICT.

There are numerous enrichment courses throughout the apprenticeship, such as health, safety awareness, first aid at work, site manager safety training scheme and the opportunity to sit their CSCS touch screen test. 

The apprentice would be required to attend a workshop fortnightly on a Monday 8.30 - 4.30 at the training providers site She Compliancy, CITB testing centre, 1a Seymer Road Romford RM1 4LA. There is onsite parking and refreshments available to apprentices. 

The apprentice will also get further opportunities to attend any extra  internal/external training courses relevant to the role or as required by the Company, as well as ongoing personal development.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Once the apprentice has achieved their apprenticeship there will be opportunities for growth leading towards a full-time position as a Health and Safety advisor and Site Managment.

Things to consider

Attending site, which will be working in all weather conditions. Must be able to commute to Romford for training and other sites around the London area.
