What will the apprentice be doing?

Our apprentice will be required to learn all aspects of the stonemasonry trade.

This includes:

  • General Labouring (initially).
  • Pointing Bath stone and rubble walling.
  • Fixing of rubble walling.
  • Banker work (working of stone).
  • Paint removal using hand tools and repairs using restoration mortar.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Training will be delivered by block release at the Somer Valley Campus in Radstock.

The apprentice will acheive a Level 2 in Stonemasonry.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

To work full time as a Stonemason with the prospect of bonus and pricework.

Things to consider

Will be required to work in all weather conditions (wet suits will be provided for wet weather). The majority of time, the apprentice will be on their feet.

Based in Bristol, Hancock Stone Limited specialise in the care of stonework. We carry out contracts from the North Midlands, down to the South coast. Stonemasonry is a very highly skilled and specialised trade. Our Stonemasons are trained to become fully qualified and experts in their field, attending Bath College to gain the required qualifications as well as working on site alongside more mature Stonemasons to gain valuable experience. Our range of works include: Stone Cleaning, Carving, Conservation, Restoration, Pointing, New Build, & Paint Removal. We also carry out new and remedial works to Rubble Stone Walling.
