What will the apprentice be doing?

  • To ensure that all the people using the service are supported in accordance with their support plan/personal centred plan.
  • To know all the people you support medical conditions and to be familiar with any medication they take, and to support them with repeat prescriptions where necessary.
  • To link it with pharmacies/ GP’s/ other medical professionals.
  • To keep accurate records of all the people you support.
  • To work as part of the team and follow the daily planners accordingly.
  • To enable people to make choices and decisions in their lives and what they do.
  • To follow the staff guidelines, policies and procedures of the company and the local authority.
  • To report any repairs to the appropriate person. Either the on call manager or landlords.
  • To carry out the Health and Safety tasks that are set where you work.
  • To report any Health and safety issues to the Health and Safety Officer or your on-call manager immediately.
  • To make sure all appointments /health issues are logged on the appropriate documentation.
  • To support people to budget, pay their bills to ensure there are no complications with their tenancy.
  • To work in accordance with Risk Assessments and to report any new identified risks to the on call manager
  • To project a professional image at all times and maintain good working relationships with all other professionals.
  • Maintain accurate records and keep up to date files ensuring, at all times, confidentiality is maintained.
  • To maintain an awareness and observation of Fire and Health & Safety Regulations
  • To carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, the title of the post and it’s grading as requested your manager.
  • To promote the independence of individuals supporting them in areas that have been identified only.
  • To treat people who use our service with dignity and respect at all times whilst supporting their beliefs and wishes.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The successful candidate will work towards a level 2 diploma in care.

This apprenticeship provides an ideal entry into the occupation and supports progression within the sector. 

Individuals without level 1 English and maths will need to achieve this level and take the test for level 2 English and maths prior to taking the end-point assessment.

For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement the apprenticeships English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3 and British Sign Language qualification are an alternative to English qualifications for whom this is their primary language.
