What will the apprentice be doing?

The apprentice will carry out a full range of dispensary duties including (not an exhaustive list):

  • Unpacking, checking and shelving stock
  • Ordering stock
  • Preparing prescriptions/dispensing
  • Handing out to patients
  • Dealing with queries
  • Dealing with controlled drugs/drug returns
  • Making up monitored dosage boxes

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Level 2 Pharmacy Assistant apprenticeship.
Functional Skills maths and English Level 1 and/or Level 2, as appropriate.
Training will take place at the workplace - no need to travel to a college.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

It is expected that at the end of the apprenticeship, a dispensary position within the practice would be offered.

About the employer

We are a 16500 patient general practice, split over 3 sites, 2 of which are part dispensing. We are a training practice and train across all disciplines, with apprentices in dispensary and admin/reception, student nurses, medical students and GP Registrars. There are 8 partners and an extensive clinical and non clinical admin support team.
