What will the apprentice be doing?

As a Systems Engineering Apprentice you will develop the key skills and experience in the following:

  • Develop an understanding of the required behaviours and codes of practice of a professional engineer
  • Understanding complex systems by working on different roles and tasks on on-going projects
  • Familiarity with the Systems Engineering Lifecycle and activities
  • Familiarity with System Engineering tools and methods for requirements capture, requirements management and system design
  • An understanding of systems test activities including Integration, Validation, Verification & Qualification (IVVQ) and the associated processes and tools
  • A methodical and structured approach to problem investigation

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

As a Systems Apprentice you will be studying towards a BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, under the Embedded Electronic Systems Design and Development Degree Apprenticeship standard Level 6 with London South Bank University. 

For the duration of this 4.5 year programme, you will be given one day per week in which to complete your university studies. For the other 4 days you will be working in the business, applying your learning and gaining a breadth of experience across the engineering function. 

Upon completion of the programme, there will be the opportunity to apply for professional registration with the Institute of Engineering and Technology as an Incorporated Engineer. 

An Honours Degree in Electronics or Electrical & Electronic Engineering which has been accredited by one of the Professional Engineering Institutions licensed by the UK Engineering Council.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

You will become a system engineer within the system function.
