What will the apprentice be doing?

The successful individual will gain first-hand experience of, but not limited to the following:

  • The setting and programming of work on 3 Axis & 5 Axis CNC machines.
  • Developing 3 and 5 axis programmes.
  • 2D & 3D CAD design.
  • Basic fitting techniques.
  • Grinding, benchwork and associated techniques.
  • Checking and inspection of work.
  • Understanding both in house and customer supplied engineering drawings.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will receive on the job training and guidance from your employer and will also attend Sandwell college 1 day per week to achieve your Level 3 Engineering Technician qualifications.

After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
  • Level 2 Diploma in Machining (Foundation Knowledge)

After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) - Machining
  • Level 3 Diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge)

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Successful candidates will be required to do a 4 year practical and academic apprenticeship, which will lead to a professional qualification in a specific engineering discipline.
