What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Work with our engineering teams and develop your skills helping repair aircraft components and conducting “on-wing” repair on our full fleet of aircraft
  • Be involved in component workshop checks and help with significant composite and sheet metal repairs
  • Working with and repairing components using the latest materials, processes and technologies, from a simple panel to a complete Engine Thrust Reverser
  • Learn about the importance of health, safety and security in everything our engineering teams do
  • Develop your engineering skills and knowledge through a combination of on - the - job learning and coursework
  • Gain formal qualifications that will set you up for a successful career as an Aircraft Workshop Technician

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The initial induction to the business for this Apprenticeship will take place at our London Heathrow Base. For the remainder of the first year, this Apprenticeship will then be based at Kingston College, where you will study towards a Foundation qualification (Level 2) Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.

For years two and three, you will work towards the completion of your Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) as a Workshop Mechanic, obtaining a BTEC Level 3 in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and a Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering, where you will undertake placements at British Airways Heathrow base.

Things to consider

We are looking for a minimum of 5 GCSE grades 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent which must include Science, English & Maths (we accept predicted grades, but they must be achieved by the start date.) Some recognised prior learning may mean you are ineligible to receive funding please check our BA careers website to confirm our requirements.
