What will the apprentice be doing?
This 4 year apprenticeship is structured as follows:
- During your first 2 years you'll benefit from a fixed set of placements, rotating departments to give you a good insight into the basics of Mechanical Engineering and related departments in MBDA.
- Years 3 and 4 you'll get to pick the placements that you would like to do as well as have the option to do an 'external' placement in another function or with a supplier/external agency.
- During you fourth year you’ll complete an individual research project with the option for this to be an industry sponsored project in partnership with MBDA.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Product design and development engineer (degree) level 6.
You'll see all aspects of engineering from a mechanical perspective, from computer aided concept design, simulation and modelling to hands on testing, and manufacture and assembly. Starting on more basic tasks, as you increase in confidence and your studies progress you'll get involved in more complex projects in an increasingly autonomous environment - but always with the support and guidance from world leading technical specialists in their field. During your placements and university studies you will be exposed to more than just mechanical engineering. You’ll develop the skills required to work as part of a multi-functional project team, regularly working with colleagues from other areas such as electronic & environmental engineering.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Through regular one to ones, development plans and the use of mentors, you will have the opportunity to shape your career within the organisation. We have many senior members in the organisation that started life as an MBDA apprentice.
