What you will do in your working day
Through a combination of on-the-job technical training and time studying at university, Software Apprentices will develop the skills to effectively design, create, and test software. Working closely with other teams and departments, you will work through a variety of stages in the software development process, covering anything from embedded systems to front end software. This software will be developed on a range of platforms, including Linux and Windows, utilising C/C++, LabView and Java.
The training you will be getting
On this 4-year scheme you will study towards a BSc (Hons) Digital & Technology Solutions Software Engineer pathway at Manchester Met University, to align with the Level 6 Digital and Technology Solutions Professional Apprenticeship Standard. Study will take place face to face at university 1 day per week.
When not at University you will be working across new and existing software products building your overall product knowledge. You'll have involvement in all aspects of the software development lifecycle within a supportive team
In years 1-3, you'll have 6 x 6 month placements in each of the departments within Software and expose you to different technologies and development methodologies. In your final year, you will take on a year-long placement in the department of your choice.
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
Through regular one to ones, development plans and the use of Mentors, you will have the opportunity to shape your career within the organisation. We have many senior members in the organisation that started life as an MBDA apprentice.
As you progress towards your final year on the scheme we’ll help you to understand your skills and career ambitions so we can help you to see the technical career paths that are available to you.
