What will the apprentice be doing?

As a Construction Apprentice what will I be doing? This role will include placing of orders, assistance valuing work undertaken by suppliers and sub-contractors, administration, assisting the review of contract documentation, liaison with design, production and installation functions.

What will you do in the short term?

  • Initially you will spend time learning about the products and services we offer
  • When you are confident with the products and services that we offer, you will be shown how to place and review supplier/sub-contractor orders and valuations, prepare contract programmes and assist in the review of new contracts
  • Once proficient in the duties detailed in the second bullet point, you will be shown how to value and claim for the work which we have completed on our projects

What will you do in the longer term?

  • As you become proficient in the core duties, you will be given further training and responsibility to undertake the commercial duties for various projects and as you progress through the formal learning process via college day-release you will eventually be given lead commercial responsibility for one, then more projects as you progress from apprentice to Quantity Surveyor

In addition to the apprenticeship training you will receive hands on experience including mentoring and coaching from experienced members of the team.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Construction Support Technician Level 3.

  • This apprenticeship programme is delivered with a blend of weekly online training sessions with block release weeks to our providers training facility
  • Training will be provided by Learning Skills Partnership

Things to consider

This role may involve some travelling, specifically in order to attend the training facility to undertake your academic training, as such a driving licence would be beneficial. A career in construction may involve being based on projects in various locations. Please note that the wage does vary depending on age, see further details below: Candidates aged 16-17 £4.81 per hour, Candidates aged 18-20 £6.83 per hour, Candidates aged 21- 22 £9.18 per hour, Candidates aged 23+ £9.50 per hour.
