What will the apprentice be doing?

Duties to include:

  • Contribute to the provision of a safe and stimulating environment for the children, ensuring that all of the children in the setting are able to partake.
  • Supervise and care for the children at mealtimes, ensuring that you encourage independence as much as possible.
  • Help with hygiene routines including toileting and nappy changing.
  • Use knowledge of First Aid to care for children suffering minor injuries. In the absence of a First Aid certificate, seek out a qualified First Aider and support them as required.
  • Always be on the alert for cases of any form of child abuse and inform the relevant person should a concern arise.
  • To assist with the written completion of daily reports and registration records such as accident forms if required.
  • Inform usual nursery staff as to new developments within a child so that this can be recorded in the relevant file.
  • Help maintain all nursery equipment and encourage the children to do the same so that they are kept in good condition and assist in their repair and production where required.
  • Assist colleagues in providing a clean, safe environment by doing laundry, washing up and other household chores where required
    Keep up to date with new ideas and thinking within the Early Years sector.
  • Comply with all nursery policies and keep up to date with new policies and ensure that others are doing so.
  • Participate in nursery activities, such as summer fairs, and staff meetings, which may be called out of nursery hours.
  • Promote good relationships with parents and carers and outside agencies.
  • To maintain and respect the need for confidentiality both inside and outside the nursery.
  • Ensure your own actions contribute to maintaining a high standard and quality service.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • Ensure queries and problems are brought to the attention of the relevant person.
  • Liaise with colleagues to ensure that nursery provision is of the best quality at all times.
  • Maintain relevant paperwork such as learning journeys and keep up to date.
  • Undertake further training should it be required of you.
  • Work with the Head of Room to ensure the best possible quality of care and education is offered too each and every child.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship Qualification.

Functional Skills if required.

Training to be provided includes, but not limited to, basic safeguarding, paediatric first aid, continuous training throughout the job when available such as forest school training, training specific to age the candidate will be working with.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

We like to reward hard working staff with promotions, all our Heads of Room have progressed through the Nursery from Nursery assistants/nurses.
