What will the apprentice be doing?

The Placements Team within the Careers Service at Newcastle University is looking to recruit a hardworking and enthusiastic Business Administration Apprentice to the team to support a wide range of administrative and marketing activity.  The Placements Team supports Undergraduate students to find and undertake an industrial placement year as part of their degree.  More information at www.ncl.ac.uk/careers/workexperience/placements

On a day-to-day basis, the Apprentice will support the team with a variety of administrative and marketing tasks, including:

  • Responding to and managing student and employer queries within a shared email inbox
  • Management and updating of excel databases, other Microsoft Office applications such as Teams and SharePoint, and online systems such as the Careers Service operating system, MyCareer, and the University’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), Canvas.
  • Setup and management of workshops and 1-2-1s for students on placement, including email communications, system updating and diary management
  • Liaise with University colleagues via Teams and email to review details of placement students and ensure key university processes for exams and registration are followed.
  • Marketing administration, including writing of short announcements to promote placement opportunities, editing of case study materials and sharing of social media content
  • Review and check key details of student placement information via university systems and internet research. Use of email to check and confirm placement details.
  • Take minutes of team meetings and update actions within Team planning documents

The Apprentice will also support with wider Careers Service activity and projects including events and marketing support, graduate vacancy and database management and internships and placement recruitment administration support.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Level 3 Business Administrator apprenticeship standard, which includes:

  • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
  • End-Point Assessment (EPA)
  • Training delivered by Access Training through a mixture of projects, training workshops and one to one support.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to apply for other roles within the Careers Service and continue with your development and progression.
