What will the apprentice be doing?

The role of a Motor Vehicle Technician is to maintain, service and repair vehicles to a consistently high standard. This exciting apprenticeship programme is ideal for someone who is looking to begin their journey to becoming a qualified Vehicle Technician and who wants to develop a long-term career.

The duties and responsibilities associated with this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Working alongside qualified technicians with the investigation, repair and service of vehicles.
  • Investigate symptoms of vehicle fault(s) and identify the likely underlying causes.
  • Remove repair/replace components in line with manufacturers standards.
  • Inspect and prepare a vehicle to the required quality standard for handover to the customer e.g. following a service, complex repair, quality control etc.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop and adhere to the Autocentres business processes (e.g. environmental awareness, servicing a vehicle, record keeping, customer contact, documentation completed, quality) and standard workshop operations.
  • Develop advanced diagnostic principles and logical problem-solving techniques, supported by diagnostic tools and testing regimes, to establish electrical, mechanical and electronic faults.
  • Other general technical duties and general housekeeping.
  • Good communication skills/ability to liaise at all levels.
  • Follow health & safety.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Autocare Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard (includes Functional Skills in maths and English if required.) 
  • The training will be with Blackburn College and you will be required to attend college one day a week. 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • Future qualifications and full-time position for the right candidate.
