What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Be the first point of contact for helpdesk queries at the helpdesk window, unlocking accounts, changing passwords amongst other tasks
  • Answer the Helpdesk Phone to assist learners and staff with IT queries, escalating where necessary
  • Allocate IT jobs that come through the online helpdesk
  • Installing Software
  • Reimaging Computers
  • Maintaining PC Suites
  • Helping keep the college IT Infrastructure running smoothly

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The apprenticeship training is delivered100% in the workplace. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the Information Communications Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship standard. On completion the apprentice will receive Information Communications Technician Level 3 qualification. Functional Skills in Maths and English may also be required depending on current level.   

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Team History

We currently have one 1st Line Engineer, one 2nd Line Engineer who worked their way through the college IT courses up to university level and came to us as 1st Line engineer, one 3rd Line Engineer, who started with us as an apprentice and has worked his way up, one Senior IT Services Engineer who has progressed his way up to this role from 2nd Line.

Things to consider

The ideal candidate will have some experience of troubleshooting and problem-solving IT issues. You MUST be prepared to commit to your work and training for the duration of the apprenticeship. You will be required to have a telephone interview with Yeovil College prior to your application being passed on.
